This bowl was was formed in a personally thrown bisque mold and the base was thrown on the wheel. The fossil imagery was inspired by fossils found in my childhood. After the bowl was fired in the bisque kiln and cooled, I applied special glazes before it was raku fired. The colors and the crackle are dependent on the amount of oxygen granted during the raku firing and cooling. My glaze recipes are all my own, which to me, makes the work more personal and more intimate.

This colorful sculptural vessel was hand built using slabs of clay. After drying completely, it was bisque fired in the electric kiln. Then it was glazed with new proprietary glazes and raku fired to 1880 degrees F. After reaching that temperature, it was removed from the kiln and placed in a metal can with white newsprint. I closed the lid after a few seconds and allowed it to cool to air temperature.
