This Ripple Vase Form was thrown on the potter’s wheel and altered when wet. After bisque firing, it was glazed with proprietary glazes and fired to 1880 degrees in the raku kiln. The flash of colors comes from taking the red hot piece out of the kiln and placing it into a metal can with printless newsprint. After about 8 seconds a lid is placed on the can, which smothers the flames, creating an oxygen starved atmosphere. This reduction of oxygen creates the beautiful color flashes. The raku process is very serendipitous! Make it yours today!

The majority of my raku pottery is first thrown on the wheel then altered. I really enjoy glaze chemistry and developing the glaze recipes myself. There is something very personal about controlling every aspect and characteristic of my raku pottery. One thing I love is to be constantly looking for new forms and glazes to create. Once created, the glazes are then either painted, poured and/or sprayed on the pieces until I am happy with the combination of colors and textures.
