Winged Vase #1
15"W x 7"D x 15"H
This brilliantly colored winged sculpture was hand built using the American raku pottery firing process. All of my winged raku sculpture pieces are built using a thrown bisque mold and torn slabs of clay. Once they are removed from the mold, they are altered.
The colors come from proprietary glazes and underglazes. One thing I love is to be constantly looking for new forms and glazes to create. All of my glaze recipes I developed myself, which makes the work more personal and more intimate. The glazes are then sprayed, poured and/or painted on the pieces until I am happy with the combination of colors and textures. The body of the raku vessel can either be epoxied to the base or attached using museum wax. The body and the base are both raku fired.
This particular piece is one in a series of "winged" raku sculptures that add a unique and colorful dynamic to any home decor project. To see more available raku sculpture including more winged vessels like this please click here.
