Space Rock Bowl with Torn Rim
6.5"H x 10"W x 7”D
This raku bowl is thrown and altered, which includes a torn rim. It features my proprietary “space rock” glaze plus fired on underglazes. It has been water sealed with liquid silicone and is suitable for flower arranging.
This raku work was developed using the American raku pottery process. It was first built by hand on the potter’s wheel before being fired in the kiln . I painted, poured and sprayed proprietary glazes that help to make the space rock effect with blue and green sparkles as well as the reflective properties that you see. Using my own glazes makes my ceramic work more personal. There is something very gratifying about making something beautiful from scratch and I usually keep trying different application methods until I am pleased with the final result.
Colorful Raku Pottery
These reflective colors of the glaze and the crackle are all determined by the amount of oxygen allowed during the raku firing and cooling. When I reduce the oxygen, the reaction causes the oxygen to be pulled from the glazes. This incredible reaction leaves a brilliant mix of beautifully colored raku pottery. The results are always unexpected and each raku pottery piece or sculpture I pull from the container is truly one of a kind!
