Small Raku Vortex

8"H x 8"W x 8.5"L

This dynamic raku sculpture was built using a thrown bisque mold and torn slabs of clay.  The slabs are altered once they are removed from the mold.  The base that this raku piece sits on is also made from torn pieces of slabs.  The beautiful colors come from glazes and underglazes.  The body of the raku pottery vessel can either be epoxied to the base or attached using museum wax.  Of course both the body and base are raku fired.

All of my raku sculptures are thrown or created on the potter's wheel or hand built.   The deep and brilliant colors along with the textures on this raku pottery piece were developed using special glazes that are sprayed, poured and/or painted until I am pleased with the results. I develop all of my glaze recipes myself, which makes the work more personal and intimate.  I really enjoy making these pieces as the colors and textures are always a surprise.  As with all of my raku pottery, no two pieces are alike.

These raku pieces were created using the raku process. To learn more about my raku pottery and how my sculptures are created, please visit my raku firing page and please contact me if you would like more information.
