(New) Rising from the Ashes #2

25"H x 20"W

This raku pottery vessel was hand built and fired using the raku firing process. The unique textures along with its vibrant colors add a special quality to this colorful art piece.  This is part of a series of raku pottery vessels that I have developed using underglazes and my own glaze recipes which are sprayed, painted or poured on.  Creating my own glaze recipes makes the work more personal and more intimate.

There are a number of metallics that I use within my glazes that bring out the most abundant features. These include copper, silver, cobalt and chrome. When these metals melt in the firing, they leave some spectacular results.  I may also use the glazes to enhance the underlying design or texture of the raku pottery.  The colors of the glaze and the crackle are dependent on the amount of reduction allowed during the raku firing and cooling.
