This elegantly crafted ceramic vase was developed using the raku pottery process and was thrown on the wheel and altered. The bright and reflective greens and reds were developed using proprietary glaze and underglaze recipes. The glazes are sprayed, poured and/or painted on each pottery piece.
The metallics that I most often use in the glazes are copper, silver, cobalt and chrome. They melt in the firing and leave some spectacular results. I may also use the glazes to enhance the underlying design or texture of the piece. The colors of the glaze and the crackle are dependent on the amount of oxygen allowed during the raku firing and cooling. .
