Raku Tea Bowl #3
4.5"W x 4.5"D x 5"H
This unique tea bowl was wheel thrown and raku fired. The reflective properties along with its texture and colors adds a unique quality to this dynamic art piece. This is part of a series of "space rocks" that I have developed using my own glaze recipes which are either poured, sprayed or painted on. Creating my own glaze recipes makes the work more personal and more intimate. Please click here to see more of my raku sculpture.
I use a variety of metallics in my raku glazes including copper, silver, cobalt and chrome. Once they melt in the firing, they leave some truly incredible colors. At times, I apply my glazes to not only add colors but to strengthen the fundamentals of the raku pottery design or texture. The colors of the glaze and the crackle are dependent on the amount of reduction allowed during the raku firing and cooling.
