Winged Vessel 2
16"L x 6"W x 11"H
This dynamic winged sculpture combines the colors and texture of my space rock series below expanded, colorful clay rims. To see more of my winged raku pieces and other sculpture please click here.
These raku pottery pieces were built using a thrown bisque mold and torn slabs of clay. Once they are removed from the mold, they are altered. The base that they sit on is also made from torn pieces of slabs. The colors come from glazes and underglazes that I create myself. The body of the vessel can either be epoxied to the base or attached using museum wax. Both the body and base are raku fired.
The different homemade glazes that I develop help make the work more personal and more intimate. Once developed, glazes are then sprayed, poured and/or painted on the pieces.
