(New) Raku Bottle 2
16"H x 8"W
This raku ceramic bottle was created on the potter's wheel in my home studio in the Smoky Mountains near Weaverville, NC. The vibrant and reflective colors were derived from handmade glazes that I develop. I use different glaze recipes that add different variations to each piece, which to me, makes the work more personal and more intimate. The glazes are sprayed, poured and/or painted on each raku piece until I am happy with the combination of colors and textures.
The metallics that I most often use in the glazes are copper, silver, cobalt and chrome. They melt in the firing and leave some spectacular results. I may also use the glazes to enhance the underlying design or texture of the piece. The colors of the glaze and the crackle are dependent on the amount of oxygen allowed during the raku firing and cooling. .
This unique raku ceramic bottle makes a wonderful conversation piece for any interior setting.
