Blue Sky #1
8.5"H x 10"W
This beautiful blue pottery ovoid was thrown on the potter's wheel.. The reflective textures and sparkling blues and golds were created using the raku firing technique. My ceramic glaze and underglaze recipes are sprayed, poured and/or painted on. My proprietary glazes are put onto the raku piece before it is fired. The glazes were used to enhance the underlying design and texture of the piece. The reflective colors and textures of the bowl are dependent on the amount of reduction (of oxygen) allowed during the raku firing and cooling.
See some of my raku pottery glazes here.
The metallics that I most often use in the glazes are copper, silver, cobalt and chrome. They melt in the firing and leave some spectacular results. I may also use the glazes to enhance the underlying design or texture of the piece. The colors of the glaze and the crackle are dependent on the amount of reduction allowed during the raku firing and cooling.
